The Silent Majority was founded by alumni of the prestigious HBCU Virginia State University. With a passion to create a space where young, multicultural professionals could network and cultivate meaningful connections, as well as enjoy multifaceted experiences, including musical performances, amazing cuisine, and activations, (TSM) kicked off their first signature event in 2009 as a BBQ in Harlem.

For the audience, the experience was immediately branded a destination event, with a request that it become an annual “Summer Homecoming.” TSM recognized that they had branded an in-demand experience and it became known as “Dear Summer BBQ.” What started out as an idea amongst a few friends from various states, now draws thousands of HBCU alumni, Greek organizations, creatives, entertainers, professionals & influencers from across the nation.

“Dear Summer BBQ”was founded by alumni of prestigious Historically Black Colleges & Universities’ (HBCU) Virginia State University & Delaware State University. The event started out as a BBQ in Harlem amongst a few friends from various states who wanted to come together annually. It has since transformed into a “Summer Homecoming” that brings together HBCU alumni, Greek organizations, creatives, entertainers, & influencers nationwide.

Whether kicking off the season, or saying goodbye, Dear Summer BBQ is an event to network, fellowship & genuinely have a great time. “Dear Summer BBQ” is an experience that encompasses all aspects of what the everyday person imagines when the weather is warm! It is where amazing food, people, and performances all blossom under one roof.
